Weekend Report: Wave with a vengence!

Saturday

What a day! Sven Olivier and Alan O’Regan flew most of the day together with fantastic wave over Theewaterskloof dam, and Slanghoek. The wave was also good at Matroosberg, Rawsonville and Jan du Toitskloof. Unfortunately the front ridge was too clouded in to allow the run to Rooi Els, as we hoped.

Martin Grünert took Kelvin Holmwood for a 175km cross country in GOK and afterwards we couldn’t wipe the smile off Kelvin’s face! We’re hoping this has got him hooked on becoming another cross-country junkie. Adriaan Hepburn took the Lambada for a great motor-less wave flight too, getting to Franschhoek – and nearly staying there!

Thanks Nicky, Alison, Bill and the duty folk for getting going early so we could launch before the blowout!

Sunday

Again a good wave day with Johan Gericke, Alan Procter, Rob Kakebeeke and Kevin Mitchell all enjoying the silky smooth stuff and plenty of altitude. Even a visitor had the wonderful wave experience as he partook of an “air experience” flight in GOK with Peter Clemence.

After some last-minute juggling of positions, the five-day beginners’ course got off to a good start on Sunday evening with 11 of the 12 student pilots already at Worcester. Latest news is that Monday morning 07h30 the students were already keen on getting the show on the road – the only obstacles to this being the sleepy instructors!
